Celebrating professional achievement in our mortuary team
Making sure people who have died are treated with dignity and respect is one of our final acts of care, and our mortuary team works hard to provide compassionate support to those who need it. Their work is often provided discreetly, and we couldn’t be prouder of our two colleagues, Mark O’Brien and Emma Acton, who have worked hard to improve the care people receive.

Mark has been awarded Registered Scientist status by the Science Council, while Emma Acton has been awarded Registered Science Technician status.
Achieving professional registration is a significant milestone and reflects the high standards, expertise and commitment that Mark and Emma bring to their roles every day. It also highlights the quality of work within our mortuary team and the vital contribution their profession makes to our organisation.
Both registrations were achieved through sustained hard work and dedication and we’re so proud of their achievements.
Celebrating 50 years of Castle Circus Health Centre, Torquay

Earlier this month our colleagues at Castle Circus Health Centre celebrated 50 years of caring for the people of Torbay and South Devon.
Since opening in 1976, Castle Circus has supported generations of families, and during the past five decades has adapted to meet the changing health needs of local people. It’s evolved from providing vital services such as mother and baby clinics to a wide range of community and outpatient services including speech and language therapy, podiatry, dental care, sexual health, drug and alcohol clinics.
To celebrate this significant milestone, our Chief Executive, Joe, and Chair, Chris Balch, brought cake and balloons for colleagues, which was generously funded by our Torbay and South Devon NHS Charity.
Colleagues spoke about their love of working at Castle Circus, including speech and language therapy assistants Jan Hardacre and Donna Mepstead, who used the mother and baby services more than 30 years ago.
They both recalled bringing their newborns to be weighed, collecting milk tokens and attending vital baby hearing and eye tests. They also shared how amazing the reception team, something which clearly hasn’t changed! Today, Jan and Donna are part of the team helping Castle Circus continue its long tradition of supporting local families. A lovely full circle moment during 50-years of celebrating Castle Circus being at the heart of our community.
