Torbay and South Devon NHS Charity wants you!
Have you thought about taking on a challenge in 2026? Whether you’re looking for a new fitness goal, a reason to get outside, or simply want to do something positive alongside colleagues, our charity has a fantastic line‑up of events, and we want as many staff as possible to join in!
By supporting our Torbay and South Devon NHS Charity, you’ll be helping to fund equipment, projects, and enhancements that go above and beyond what the NHS can normally provide. Every pound raised helps us continue delivering the best possible care and treatment for patients and their families across Torbay and South Devon.

Your involvement—big or small—makes a huge difference. We have limited subsidised charity places available for the following events:
- Great West Run, Exeter, Sunday 24 May. Take on this popular half marathon through the heart of Exeter.
- English Riviera Triathlon, Torbay, Sunday 05 July. Swim, bike and run along our stunning coastline. Ideal for all levels, with multiple distances available.
- Inflatable 5K, Exeter, Saturday 15 August. Fun, energetic and family‑friendly. Bounce, slide and laugh your way around an epic inflatable course!
- Torbay Half Marathon and 10K, Sunday 20 September. A scenic seafront challenge right on our doorstep, perfect for beginners or experienced runners.
- Take the Leap: 15,000ft Charity Skydive. Experience the thrill of freefall while supporting local patient care. A once‑in‑a‑lifetime challenge!
It’s easy to get involved—sign up, take part, and help spread the word. Email tsdft.charity@nhs.net to register your interest or secure one of the subsidised places.
Easter health advice
With the long Easter bank holiday coming up, make sure your holiday gets off to a healthy start.
Whether you’re enjoying a staycation, or have loved ones visiting, the NHS is here for you if you need us.

Ahead of the Easter weekend, the advice is to:
- make sure you have ordered and collected any repeat medicines, especially if you are travelling
- continue to call 999 in emergency and life-threatening cases – when someone is seriously ill or injured, or their life is at risk
- go to NHS 111 online if you need medical help or advice, or you are unsure about whether you should go to hospital; you can also phone 111
- visit our urgent treatment centre or one of our minor injuries units if you need care which isn’t life-threatening. Our doctors and nurses can treat animal bites, burns, cuts, broken bones and sprains. Visit our Minor Injury waiting times page for details of opening times.
- play your part by taking simple steps to look after yourselves and loved ones, checking in on vulnerable family members and neighbours. A first step is making sure your medicine cabinet is well-stocked
- make use of community pharmacies, which can advise on minor illnesses and provide medications. Local opening hours can be viewed on the NHS England South West website
- if you, or someone you know, experiences a mental health crisis you can access support from 111.
- your community pharmacist can also help with indigestion remedies if you have eaten too many Easter eggs or hot cross buns.
Visitors to Devon are also reminded that their first port of call for GP care is their home practice, which will be able to provide online, phone and video consultations as well as arranging for prescriptions to be sent to any pharmacy you choose.
