Congratulations to our latest Primrose and Daisy award winners, Sharon Barnes and Alison White

Sharon Barnes, a healthcare support worker on Warrington Ward is our latest Primrose award winner, which recognises the dedication of our healthcare support workers. She received two nominations from patients for making them feel less alone, being a calming presence when they were anxious and having a great sense of humour – which helped them through their hospital stay.
The nominations said: “Sharon made sure when I inevitably became overwhelmed that she was there to show me I wasn’t alone. She reminded me I was deserving of care and helped me through some intensely emotional challenges. She somehow knew what I needed to hear and I felt seen by this incredible woman who appeared to have endless compassion and a wicked sense of humour.”
“Sharon made me feel so calm by just listening to me, and why I was afraid. She walked me all the way down to the anaesthesia room and talked to me keeping me calm. Telling me I wasn’t being silly, and held my hand while they put me under, which gave me so much comfort. I don’t think I can explain in words how thankful I am for having her be there when I was in so much stress and anxiety.”
Nurse Alison White from our paediatric diabetic team was nominated for a DAISY award by a patient’s family in recognition of the outstanding care and support she has provided during the past seven years for their son who is living with type 1 diabetes. She has quietly and confidently supported him on his journey, empowering him to manage his diabetes well.
“The transition to school felt overwhelming and Alison worked with the family to develop a robust care plan for his school. His excellent diabetes control at school is a testament to the thorough education and guidance she provided. Today, he is a confident and positive young man who has embraced life with diabetes and this is in no small part due to Alison’s exceptional skills, patience and dedication.”
Thank you, Alison and Sharon for all you do.
If you’ve received excellent care from one of our colleagues, please consider nominating them for an Our People Awards.
We’re bowled over by Jim’s charity fundraiser
A huge thank you to Jim Harvey, who has raised more than £1,853 for our charity with a fun-filled fundraiser at Bitton Park Bowling Club, Teignmouth.

Jim organised the event to raise money for our Ricky Grant Day Unit, where he is undergoing chemotherapy every two weeks.
Jim set himself a challenge to play 100 ends of bowls, which he completed in eight hours and 55 minutes, and held a raffle, a mixed triples bowls match followed by a cream tea and collected loose change around the green.
The money will be used to fund the refurbishment of two treatment rooms and to buy TVs for patients to watch while on the unit. We are so grateful to Jim for organising such a fantastic event while undergoing treatment.
