Funding to develop a new digital tool to help staff manage stress
We’re proud to announce a new partnership with Cineon, a specialist in AI, immersive technology and eye-tracking for training and therapeutic applications, and the University of Bath to develop and test ELE-Stress – an immersive resource hub to support our frontline teams to manage their mental health.
People working in our front line teams will often have the most stressful jobs in the NHS and social care, and once developed the new hub will let them access clinically-backed immersive support, when they want it, to help manage stress, burnout and to overcome work-related trauma.

The project is supported by funding from Innovate UK’s Mindset Extended Reality (XR) for Digital Mental Health Programme, which backs innovative solutions using immersive technology to improve mental health.
Dr Nick Peres, our Director of Digital Innovation and Transformation, said: “Supporting staff wellbeing is a major priority. This collaboration will help us explore new, evidence-based ways to provide that support, particularly for those returning to work after experiencing stress.”
New exhibition celebrates the English Riviera’s marine heritage

We’re proud to host a stunning new exhibition at our HeARTs Gallery at Torbay Hospital featuring underwater photos which give people a chance to connect with our area’s extraordinary marine heritage.
The exhibition has been created by the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark which celebrates the extraordinary natural story of the local area, celebrated for its geological, environmental and cultural significance.
Covering the area of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark designation is the highest level of international recognition an area can be awarded for its extraordinary geology, and linked environment, heritage and culture.
This autumn, Torbay Hospital will also be the site of a new organ donation seagrass memorial, a powerful and symbolic installation that links beautifully with the themes of the exhibition. The memorial will honour those who have given the gift of life through organ donation, using seagrass—a vital and protected marine habitat—as a metaphor for renewal, connection, and the sustaining power of generosity. Together, the exhibition and memorial will offer a unique opportunity to reflect on the deep interconnection between human life, community, and the natural world.
Chief Executive Joe Teape said: “We are delighted to be working with the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark on this important exhibition and to host it at Torbay Hospital. It’s a powerful reminder of the unique beauty and value of the place we live and work in and it brings an added sense of community pride and connection to all who walk through our doors.”
The exhibition is now open and can be viewed in the main entrance area of Torbay Hospital until October 2025, and marks the start of an exciting collaboration between Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust and the Geopark.
